Central Heating Services We Offer
From complete system installations to targeted upgrades — we cover the full range of central heating work.
Full Central Heating System Installation
From £4,000If your property currently has storage heaters, a single gas fire, or no fixed heating at all, we can design and install a complete gas central heating system. This includes a new boiler, all radiators, pipework, controls and thermostats — every element handled in-house.
We'll assess the property, calculate the heat load required for each room, specify appropriately-sized radiators, and design a pipework layout that minimises disruption. A full system installation in an average three-bedroom semi-detached property typically takes three to five days.
Central Heating Powerflush
From £350Over time, central heating systems accumulate sludge — a mixture of rust, corrosion products and scale that gradually reduces efficiency. A powerflush uses a high-flow pump and specialist cleaning chemicals to blast this out of the system.
Signs you may need a powerflush: radiators cold at the bottom but warm at top, slow system warm-up, noisy boiler or pipes, boiler shutting off repeatedly, dark water when you bleed a radiator. A full powerflush on a 6–10 radiator system typically takes 4–6 hours.
Radiator Installation & Replacement
From £150Adding a radiator to an existing system, replacing old radiators with new efficient models, and installing thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) for room-by-room temperature control.
Single radiator installation from £150–£250 (excluding the radiator itself, which we can supply or you can purchase separately). We balance the system after installation.
Smart Thermostat Installation
From £200Replacing an old programmable thermostat with a Nest, Hive, Drayton Wiser or similar typically pays back its cost within one to two heating seasons through reduced gas consumption.
Smart thermostats learn usage patterns, can be controlled remotely by phone, and give much more precise control than traditional time clock and thermostat combinations. Supply and installation from £200–£350 depending on the system.
Underfloor Heating
Quote on requestWe install wet (hydronic) underfloor heating systems in ground floor extensions and new rooms where the floor construction allows. Provides much more even heat distribution than radiators.
Underfloor heating is particularly well-suited to kitchen extensions, open-plan living areas and new-build rooms. More efficient than radiators in well-insulated rooms as it operates at lower flow temperatures.
Zone Controls & Heating Upgrades
From £400Splitting a heating system into independently controllable zones — typically upstairs and downstairs — allows much more precise control of when and where the house heats up.
We install zone valve controls, additional programmers and smart heating systems to create zoned heating in existing properties. A 2-zone conversion typically costs £400–£600.
Do You Need a Powerflush?
Over time, central heating systems accumulate sludge — a mixture of rust, corrosion products and scale that circulates with the heating water and gradually reduces efficiency. A powerflush blasts this out of the system, restoring performance and protecting your boiler.
Book a Powerflush QuoteSigns you may need a powerflush:
- →Radiators cold at the bottom but warm at the top
- →System slow to heat up in the morning
- →Noisy boiler or pipes (particularly a kettle-like sound)
- →Boiler shutting off repeatedly due to overheating
- →Dark, dirty water when you bleed a radiator
- →Frequently needing to bleed radiators
New Central Heating vs Upgrading an Existing System
If your existing system is over 20 years old
A full replacement is often more cost-effective in the long run if showing signs of serious deterioration — corroded pipework, multiple radiator leaks, an old inefficient boiler.
If your system is 10–20 years old
Fundamentally sound but underperforming? A powerflush and targeted repairs (new pump, magnetic filter, TRV upgrades, smart thermostat) can restore performance for a fraction of replacement cost.
If your system is under 10 years old
And simply underperforming, diagnosis and targeted remedial work is almost always the right answer before considering any more extensive work.
We'll give you an honest assessment of which approach makes sense for your specific system after a free inspection.

ECO4 & Government Grants for Central Heating
The ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation) scheme provides government funding for heating improvements in qualifying properties. The scheme covers first-time central heating installation for properties currently without central heating, as well as other energy efficiency measures.
Areas like Thamesmead and parts of Erith have a high proportion of properties that may qualify for ECO4 funding. If you're in a property without central heating and are receiving benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Child Tax Credit, it's worth calling us to discuss eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a new central heating system cost?+
A full central heating installation — boiler, all radiators, pipework, controls and thermostat — in an average three-bedroom semi typically costs between £4,000 and £7,000. The range depends on property size, number of radiators, accessibility of pipework routes and the boiler specification chosen.
How often should central heating be serviced?+
The boiler should be serviced annually. The wider heating system — radiators, pipework, pump, expansion vessel — should be checked every one to two years, and a powerflush considered if system performance has declined. A magnetic filter (if fitted) should be cleaned or inspected at each annual service.
What are the signs of a failing heating system?+
Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, the boiler making kettle or banging noises, slow system warm-up, needing to bleed radiators frequently, dark or discoloured water when bleeding, and the boiler tripping off due to overheating are all signs the system needs attention. Most of these point to a sludge build-up that a powerflush will resolve.
Can I get a government grant to install central heating?+
Possibly. The ECO4 scheme provides government-funded heating improvements for eligible households. Eligibility is based primarily on receiving certain means-tested benefits and living in a property with poor insulation or an inefficient heating system. Call us on 01474 329154 to discuss whether you might qualify.
What heating systems will replace gas boilers in the future?+
The current government position is that gas boilers will be phased out for new installations from 2035 (as of early 2026, this policy is under active review). Heat pumps are the primary alternative for most homes. If you're planning a central heating installation in the next year or two, we'd recommend a high-efficiency condensing gas boiler compatible with a heat pump hybrid setup in future.
